Habitat For Humanity

Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit organization
that helps people with low
-income build and buy
houses.

Three factors make the houses affordable for low-
income people.
  • Houses are sold at no profit, and there is no
    interest charged on the mortgage.
  • Home buyers and volunteers build the houses.
  • Corporations, individuals, church groups and
    others supply financial support.
Homeowners are chosen based on their needs and the
ability to pay the mortgage. Many homeowners and
their families work alongside volunteers in building the
house.

The average cost of a Habitat House in the United
States is $60,000, and the mortgage term ranges from
7 years to 30 years.

There are terms and conditions in place to prevent
homeowners from taking advantage of the program by
reselling the house after a short time living in it, and
making a substantial profit.

Refinancing a Habitat house can also be a challenge.
The motivation for the refinance will have to be
addressed.

If you would like to find out more about Habitat For
Humanity, and to find out if you qualify for one of their
houses, visit their website
www.habitat.org for details.
